Last year we developed a customer-facing app for Theodore Hoffman and his team at Cut My Garden, which allows their customers to book and pay for gardening services in advance. This allowed better and more secure customer experience than most of their competitors in UK. But, CMG did not stop there. They needed an app to simplify the processes of assigning gardening jobs to independent gardeners.

The Challenge

As Theodore grew his company in the past couple of months, his main objective was to turn CMG from a local business to a nation-wide franchise. One of the biggest challenges was creating a technological infrastructure, which would allow him to scale the business quickly and effortlessly.

The scalability of Theodore’s business heavily relies on the distribution of the jobs, based on the fact where each gardener is located and if they have sufficient personel and equipment to do the job.

On the other hand, Theodore wanted to make sure that the quality of service remains on the highest level, which is a big challenge when you talk about independent collaborators. He wanted to do a thorough background check about each applicants previous experience, equipment and skills.

“The Calda team have been great communicators. They suggested early on in the process to change what Backend service I was planning to use to accommodate better the amount of data I will need to draw from.”

The Solution

Once a user in the customer-facing CMG app creates a new booking, all certified CMG gardeners receive that job in their app. They can view more details about it, such as scope of work, date, price & images of customers garden. Thus they can decide if they want to take the job or not.

But before the gardener gets an access to the app, they must go through a multi-step onboarding process and provide necessary information about their business. Until Theodore and his team make the manual background check, the gardeners are unable to view or take any jobs. This assures the level of service remains on the highest possible level.

Summary

Growing a local company to a nation-wide franchise business is a very challenging task to do. Having a reliable partner that helps you build your business is very important. And we’re glad to call ourselves Cut My Garden’s business partners, because we believe in bringing software development closer to the small businesses with great growth potential. And believe us when we say, that’s not the end of CMG x Calda.
