You could say there’s little room for innovation in the e-commerce industry. Usually, companies distinguish themselves from their competitors solely based on their brand and customer communication. Well, not REZ Energy.

Let’s dive into how a simple subscription-based Shopify store plans to take its business to a new level with its custom mobile app.

Better Customer experience

REZ Energy is a Shopify business that sells products through a subscription model. In other words, you subscribe to their products, and they get delivered to you on a selected time interval. Neat right?

They understood that many of their customers had issues with the management of their subscription deliveries. What if I don’t need the next order, or if I want to postpone it or get it delivered to a different address? Before, you had to log in to your online shop profile and manage this through an online portal.

Instead, REZ Energy wanted to allow their regular customers to control this through a mobile app, where the overall experience is much better. Instead of needing 3 minutes or more to manage your next order, now their customers can do that in less than 40 seconds. Talk about developing a better experience for your customers.

Recovering failed Subscriptions

A big issue that most subscription-based e-commerce business face are failed subscription payments. More than 35% of subscription payments fail on average, which represents a big challenge and a danger to these businesses.

The second level of this issue is that a big portion of failed subscription payments are never recovered. Most businesses send automated emails to customers if their subscription payment fails, but the issue is that these emails never get opened. More than 97% of emails never get opened.

On the other hand, push notifications are much more efficient when it comes to the open rate, with more than 20% of notifications being opened in the e-commerce industry.

App translating to a higher ARR

Just by having a custom mobile app and integration of push notifications, REZ Energy put themselves in a position where they have 10x higher chances to recover their failed subscription payments.

Overall, the app is solving problems on two levels - the first being a better overall experience for their customers and the second allowing REZ Energy to be more efficient with recovering failed subscription payments, which translates to a higher ARR.
